BARB 121 Introduction to Barbering-Module 1 (6 Units)

Hours: 324 (324 lab)

First of four consecutive segments of introduction to barbering. During this class, students will be introduced to thermal and wet hair styling, hair-cutting, introduction to beard care, hair coloring techniques, and an introduction to texture services such as perms and relaxers. Students will learn infection control along with sanitation and disinfection. Students will learn about health and safety, chemistry, anatomy and diseases and disorders as they apply to barbering.

BARB 122 Introduction to Barbering-Module 2 (6 Units)

Hours: 324 (324 lab)

Second of four consecutive segments of introduction to barbering. Students apply proper sanitation and disinfection control, execute basic manicure and pedicure services, conduct client consultations, basic beard and skin care, learn and execute short hair cuts using clippers, hair color and chemical texturizing techniques while working on clients.

BARB 123 Introduction to Barbering-Module 3 (6 Units)

Hours: 324 (324 lab)

Third of four consecutive segments of introduction to barbering. Students will learn and execute skin care techniques, such as basic facials and shaving. Students will learn and execute temporary hair removal techniques such as waxing and tweezing. Students will learn about public safety as it applies to skin care, shaving and hair removal. Students continue to apply proper sanitation and disinfection control, execute intermediate manicure and pedicure, conduct client consultations, execute intermediate hairstyles (braids, thermal styling, etc.), haircuts, hair color and texturizing techniques while working on clients.

BARB 124 Introduction to Barbering-Module 4 (6 Units)

Hours: 324 (324 lab)

Fourth of four consecutive segments. Designed as preparation for the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology Exam. This course includes relaxer services (sodium hydroxide & ammonium thioglycolate), business such as goal setting, finding a job and building professional relationships . Students continue to apply proper sanitation and disinfection control, conduct client consultations, execute intermediate color techniques, haircuts, and texturizing techniques while working on clients.
