Fashion and Design classes are offered free to community members and provide a welcoming, engaging environment for students of all levels. Students develop technical sewing skills through hands-on construction projects aligned with certificate pathways.

FADV NC101 Beginning Techniques in Sewing I (0 Units)
Hours: 60 (24 lecture, 36 lab)
Introduction to machine sewing, including proper use of all tools in a modern sewing studio. Create bags, aprons, pillow cases, and garments while learning to produce professional seam finishes, buttonholes, and zipper insertions. This course offers essential skills for all sewing practices, from fashion to home decor and crafts. Course restricted to 98 repetitions
FADV NC102 Beginning Techniques in Sewing II (0 Units)
Hours: 60 (24 lecture, 36 lab)
Continuing instruction in sewing skills, building upon Beginning Techniques in Sewing. Students will become comfortable with all the machines and tools of a modern sewing studio while making zippered and lined bags, shirts or dresses with collars. This class includes an introduction to working with knits and creating custom T-shirts. Course restricted to 98 repetitions
FADV NC120 Intermediate Techniques in Sewing I (0 Units)
Hours: 60 (24 lecture, 36 lab)
This course is intended for people who have foundational knowledge of sewing. Review of basic skills and new sewing techniques will be covered, such as pattern modifications and simple alterations. Course restricted to 98 repetitions
FADV NC121 Intermediate Techniques in Sewing II (0 Units)
Hours: 60 (24 lecture, 36 lab)
This course is designed for students with intermediate sewing skills who wish to advance their knowledge of sewing. Students are introduced to progressively more difficult and advanced techniques. Course restricted to 98 repetitions
FADV NC190 Sewing Studio (0 Units)
Hours: 60 (24 lecture, 36 lab)
This class is designed for the student who has a desire to learn to sew and/or improve their sewing skills. Students will be guided through the techniques necessary to construct a project of their choice. Projects will provide the opportunity for creativity, achievement and success through a combination of theory and practical experience. Course restricted to 98 repetitions
FADV NC200 Patchwork and Quilting Design and Construction (0 Units)
Hours: 60 (24 lecture, 36 lab)
This course teaches creation and construction methods for various quilting and patchwork projects. Students learn about color, design, construction and finishing techniques. The history and diversity of this uniquely American art form are discussed. Career employment and entrepreneurial opportunities will be explored. Students with all levels of experience in sewing are welcome. Course restricted to 98 repetitions
